Dear PG Students,
Academic Writing:
The 3 Cs of academic writing briefly explained.
1. Content. This depicts the depth or detail of knowledge within the subject matter. As a postgraduate student, your ability to provide explicit information in relation to the subject matter ie
in-depth knowledge is non-negotiable. It is about giving the ‘full picture’ of the issues relating to the subject-matter.
2. Context. In academic Writing, context is key. The role of context is to constrict the reader understand the use of terminologies or
definitions for a specific purpose. For instance, you can indicate that Corporate Governance in this study refers to the use of resources for infrastructural development. This implies that anyone reading of your draft is not permitted to see Corporate Governance ‘differently’
3. Concept. The ‘concept construct’ can be tricky because this showcases your critical thinking skills. It is a direct demonstration of your ability to process information from different sources and coherently knit them together to make intellectual sense.
Thank you.
