You're more likely to get rich by being good at human relations (political intelligence) than by a technical skill.
If you were to invest in one skill, it would be the ability to understand and manage the human beings around you.
Here are the basics everyone should know:
Everything in your life is about people:
Your first job (and subsequent ones too).
Your customers.
Your suppliers.
Your friends.
Your relationships with your online community.
The success of your human relationships depends on your ability to understand the emotions of others and to convey to them the emotions they need to feel to act in your favor.
Every human life is a series of sales:
We sell ourselves as a loyal friend.
We sell ourselves as a trustworthy partner.
We sell our skills to an employer or a client.
As you can see, selling is all about pushing the right button so that the other person says "I want it".
I can be the most talented technician in the world, but my skills are useless if there is no one to sell what I have to sell.
An offer is worthless if you can't transfer the emotion that causes the purchase.
The value of things is determined by the market, and there is a market for everything.
So all value depends on the human ability to elicit exchange.
Here are the basic elements to work on to increase the value of what you sell.
- Trust:
Trust is created by your actions.
What you do and what you say when no one is around. Don't lie unnecessarily, and don't cheat unnecessarily.
Know that you are constantly performing, life is a play, the cameras are always rolling.
Keep your word when you give it, do what you say. But you don't have to say what you do.
Remember, if I see you betraying someone, I'll be sure you betray me at the first opportunity.
- Self-confidence:
A person who needs permission to do anything is a person who is not in control of his destiny. They are not capable of making decisions and taking responsibility for them.
This means that dealing with such a person brings no benefit and is therefore a waste of time.
Nobody wants to do business with someone who does not make decisions.
No one can trust someone who is not capable of making decisions.
- Value:
This question is best summed up by @BowTiedBull.
"Do you yourself believe in the product?
Don't get me wrong, you can also be the product. When you approach a woman, do you really believe that you are the best person for her to meet (belief in the product)?
If so, your game is probably good.
Likewise, you should never sell a product you don't believe in."
