Why do you guys send me these tweets for a response? I am tired of educating brain-dead people.π€¦ββοΈ
Anyway, let's dissect this tweet and try to educate feminists on the implications of Hosseini's books by contextualising them in a historical, cultural & social trajectory.

She is saying that Hosseini should not be condemned just because the US uses such narratives from his books in order to justify the invasion of the Muslim world.
Aside from the nonsensical caricature and straw man that she has made out of the argument posed against Hosseini...

... I'll make it clear that the reason Hosseini should be condemned is not that the US is misusing his books to justify the invasion of the Muslim world. No.
The reason he should be condemned is that he is implicit in the invasion of the Muslim world.

Hosseini, and many others such as Nafisi, Khouri, Shafak, Ajami etc., are explicitly involved in the production of literature that seeks to humanize the US imperial interests and subsequently dehumanize the rebel natives who do not bend to the neoliberal world order.

This narrative of "oppressed Muslim women" is of course nothing new. This narrative goes back as far as colonialism.
The other reason the book should be condemned is that Hosseini portrays Pashtun as barbaric monsters and the constant evil and villains in his books.

He portrays them as rapists, Nazi supporters, terrorists and much more. Pashtuns, who have opposed the US invasion more fiercely than any ethnicity have consequently been the victims of constant bombings, dronings, genocide and rapes at the hands of the US.

These books which became bestsellers around the world but especially in the US dehumanized Pashtuns in order to justify the oppression they had been through; their only crime was that they fought against invaders. Just as they had been doing for the past 200 years.

This dehumanisation is of course nothing new. Every ethnicity throughout the 200 years of colonialism that sought independence from colonial powers was systematically dehumanized and considered subhuman in order to justify genocides against them.

What Hosseini has done is nothing new. There have been many other mediocre authors who have been employed by Washington to "inform" them about the Muslim world for whom they were regarded as "voices".

In fact, here is a list of state-sponsored brown/black ex-Muslims, secularists, liberals, and feminists who were hired by Washington to work as "native informants", convincing the western public that the war on terror was justified.

Elsewhere, I have written a detailed thread on the genealogy of feminism and how it has always been closely tied to colonialism, imperialism, white supremacy and racism. @maryamful you can give this a read.

Here is a thread on the white feminism rescue mission of brown and black women from their barbaric cultures.

"but but but muh women are oppressed by Taliban"
Even if women are "oppressed" (whatever that means according to you) that still doesn't justify an invasion of a country. Well, of course, it doesn't justify it in the case of Euro-Americans...

but it does in in the case of non-Euro-Americans. And women in the Western world are terribly treated in many ways. Especially non-white women. Read this thread.
