@bayesianboy I worked at a department where bullying PhD students, Jr faculty, especially women and international scholars was a major pastime. I witnessed brilliant friends getting pushed out of academia and not one Sr faculty interfering. I barely hung by a thread myself. So much trauma
@bayesianboy that 10 years later, I'm having difficulty remembering a single day I spent there. It's all a blur. I blocked out everything. I was so traumatized that I switched research areas completely to survive. I couldn't bear crossing paths with any of my old colleagues ever again.
@bayesianboy I'm with you that hearing these things makes my blood boil too. It's atrocious and inhumane. Makes me sick.
@bayesianboy I, too, walked away from a tenure track position at a much more prestigious institution and took a 40% pay cut to start over. To regain my dignity and self-worth. There was no other way.
