These 5 Habits Separate The Best Programmers From The Rest:
1. They automate as much as possible
A lot of time can be saved by automating frequently executed tasks.
Software engineers that are always looking for activities that can be automated make a huge impact to the team's productivity and the company as a whole.
2. They explore the problem in-depth before solving it
Problem-solving is a big part of being a programmer but you can't create an effective solution if you don't know all the details of the problem.
That includes the requirements, user cases, performance metrics, & more.
3. They test their work thoroughly
Average engineers just test the happy path.
Great engineers stress-test their work by testing invalid paths and finding edge cases.
This habit is reflected in their high-quality work and the lack of loops and iterations required from them.
4. They're constantly learning
The best engineers always seem to know about the latest releases, the best new tools, or the current best practices.
They are always looking for ways to improve their knowledge, skills, and processes.
5. They code with maintainability in mind
There's more to programming than just solving a problem.
Great programmers keep in mind that another engineer will need to work on their code in the future.
This consideration means that their code is clean and readable.
