People identifying as Autistic often come to the very logical conclusion they they should say “I mighty have mild Aspergers” to dip their toe into the Autistic Community.
Please be aware that Aspergers is a problematic term for multiple reasons.
- Dr. Asperger have been proven to have collaborated with Nazis and participated in the eugenic murder of children.
- The diagnosis of Aspergers was also retired from the DSM in 2013 so it is no longer an official diagnosis in many regions of the world for almost a decade.
- Aspie is also becoming more and more associated with “Aspie Supremisists” and someone new to the Autistic community could easily be misinterpreted.
- To be clear, anyone diagnosed with Aspergers is free to identify with the name of their diagnosis. This message is to raise awareness to those who are unaware of the complexities of the term Asperger.
Terms approved by the Autistic community include:
“I am Autistic”
“I am an Autist”
“I identify as Autistic”
“I am an Autistic person”
Are all acceptable options
Note:
“I am a person with Autism” stigmatizes Autism via the principals of PFL.
Thank you! ☺️💚
