Ok, the poll is done. Here's the answer: You need 1, 2, 6, 10, 20, 40, 80, or 100 (!) thermometers... depending on how accurate you want to be.
Explanation below in the comment...
If you use only 1 thermometer, you miss out on the variations within rooms. The kitchen will be warmer than the living room, for example, especially if you are cooking. And the bathroom might be colder.
But, you may need more than 1 thermometer for each room! here's why...
The area close to the heater will be much hotter than the space next to the windows! And the floor will be much colder than the ceiling.
How about the closets? How about under your bed?
Finally, if you want the average temperature for the whole day, you have to make measurements every hour, every minute or every second... depending on how accuracy requirements.
So, it's a gargantuan task! Now, imagine...
Now, imagine measuring the earth's temperature! 😳 It's an impossible task! Whatever we do is an extremely gross approximation.
But the scam goes on!
Scientist confidently say, for example, in 2020, the earth was 0.02 °F warmer than the previous year!
