21 dead-simple habits that'll transform your productivity in 2023:
1) Use Do-dates instead of Due-dates:
Finishing a task when the deadline is close, causes stress. Instead finish it before, at a time you choose.
2) Micro-tasks:
When a task is too big, you won’t know where to start. Break out the smallest next step. Do that.
3) Build in time to work on your system:
Your life is always evolving, more tasks, more responsibilities. Ensure your system evolves with you.
4) Time-blocking:
Block out time for your most important tasks (not just meetings).
5) Manage your energy:
Powering through looks cool in movies, but won’t work for you long-term. Take breaks, hydrate and fuel correctly.
6) Get better at saying “no”:
What people want you to do is often ‘busy’ work, not productive work.
7) Follow the 2-min rule:
If you can complete a task in 2mins or less, do it right away.
8) Use the Eisenhower Matrix to identify long-term priorities:
9) Eliminate distractions:
Turn off all notifications, they are a true productivity killer.
10) Don’t get right back to people:
Batch answering all messages to once a day.
11) Set a timer:
Before you start a task, see how much time you want to allocate to it and stick to it.
12) Have your phone out of sight:
The dopamine hits from your phone are stronger than your willpower. Create barriers to stay in control.
13) Journal:
Daily reflection ensures you are in control of your life.
14) Understand shallow vs deep work:
Prioritize work only you can do over ‘busy’ tasks such as emails at the start of each day.
15) Schedule distractions:
When you start work, note down when your next break will be. But stick to the scheduled time.
16) Develop a Deep Work Ritual:
Build a framework (same place, drink, music, etc) to get into flow and do your most important work.
17) Keep a distraction list:
Use pen and paper for this to avoid getting sucked into apps, etc.
18) Find repeatable shortcuts:
80% of your tasks occur regularly. Find ways to cut the time you spend on them.
19) Don’t multitask:
Why? Because you can’t.
20) Evening Shutdown:
Note down all unfinished tasks. Leave yourself breadcrumbs to easily start the next day.
21) Connect with your Why:
Make the link between your tasks and your bigger mission. This will drown your urge to procrastinate.
BONUS: Know your chronotype:
Your body and brain reach peak performance at a certain time in the day.
Plan your big tasks for then:
That's a wrap!
