Key talking points of the thread
1️⃣Passing
2️⃣Dribbling
3️⃣Attacking output
4️⃣Defending
5️⃣Positional play
1️⃣Passing
Felix is a really creative player, he likes to drop deep to get involved in build up where he can use his excellent passing ability to progress the ball and create chance
The stats back that up, a high volume passer for his role but a progressive force with variety
🎥1: Felix drops into a playmaker role, leaving space in behind the defence. He plays a beautiful floated pass into the space creating a big chance
🎥2: again drops deep, leaving space in behind the CB, the winger inverts to get onto the brilliant pass. Should do better
Felix is a really good long passer of the ball, he has a superb range of passing but his long passing is too
Starting from CF, he drops deep leaving the CBs unsure of who/what to mark. The space left could allow Bruno to push forward or Antony/Rashford to invert centrally
Felix is a superb progressive passer, ranking in the 88th% for PP
🎥1: his vision is superb, creates space for himself before a perfectly weighted pass
🎥2: link up with Bruno is already good, his versatility leaves so many spaces for others to attack & he can find their runs
Felix is a similar profile of player to Martial. He is really intelligent around the box
He has superb link play, often making runs inside the box to create space for others. But he has the vision and execution to find/play the correct passes as the clip below shows
2️⃣Dribbling
Felix is a really accomplished ball carrier. He has superb close control which allows him to dance by players, combine that with his speed/balance & he is so hard to stop running with the ball
The stats back that up with high dribbles stats & high SCA from dribbles
Felix is a very versatile player meaning he can often find pockets on the LW, in a CF area & the 10
He likes to be involved in play, he’s a touch player, he warms into games. He can often come deep and use his ball carrying ability to progress the ball into forward areas
🎥1: here he is on the LW, he’s so direct, taking players on and powering towards goal. The timing of the pass is perfect aswell
🎥2: again on the LW, but in a deeper position to pick up the ball. Shows beautiful skill to trick his way past his mean, gaining crucial yards
Two examples in just one game
🎥1: always intent on going forward, lovely step over before dropping his shoulder to completely evade the tackle
🎥2; this is what Erik wants from his CM, Felix can do it he’s that good. Look how many yards he gains, how many players he goes by
3️⃣Attacking output
Felix would be a quality attacking option for United. He has been playing in a rigid Simeone side with not much attacking freedom
Looking at his stats they aren’t overly impressive, but you need to look at the p90 stats, they are impressive
🎥1: finds space between the lines to link the attack before running into the scoring zone, exactly what we would need from him at United
🎥2: He’s a top ball striker, he can shoot from distance due to his accuracy but also his shot power and how he strikes through the ball
He’s also quite good in the air, he isn’t a target man who you are going to play off but if he gets a chance in the box his heading is clinical
He has good timing of the jump, nice movement to create space and reads the flight off the hall well. United fans know this too well
Felix is super creative. His creativity is what allows him to be positionally versatile
🎥1: it’s a simple pass but the pausa, the timing of the pass is delightful
🎥2: intelligence and Awareness shining through, the weight of the ball allows the first time strike
4️⃣Defending
Felix does work hard in defence, it’s a requirement of the Simeone style of play
His stats are excellent however they may be inflated due to the team he’s playing in. He’s a good presser who could initiate our press. He fits well for ETHs requirements off the ball
Felix is a really nice presser, he has good timing & a lot of energy to close down the opposition
At madrid he can often be found frustrated with his teams mates, not pushing high enough to maintain a strong press. He would have this support at Utd, it would be very effective
He ranks highly in the data for tackles and interceptions
However he can sometimes be over aggressive and this can lead to dangerous tackles/cards. It’s something that he needs to work on, especially in heated games where maintaining 11 players on the pitch is a must
5️⃣Positioning
Felix loves to get involved in build up, backed up by his touches stats. He picks up pockets on the pitch where he can get space to drive forward or pick a pass
I think he’d work really well at CF with the direct running of Rashford in behind and Bruno in the 10
He loves to pick up space in between the lines as we see. This is where the CB doesn’t know if they should drop to mark him or maintain position, causing chaos
In this area he will always have a passing option, or the ability to turn, go forward and shoot. A really nice option
Summary
- Felix on loan is a really good option in January, probably the best option
- if we are paying full wages we must get the loan fee down to a reasonable amount
- his versatility is key. Can play CF and the 3 positions behind the front 3. Really helpful in a long season
- I wouldn’t be looking into a buy option currently, I think long term we need a different profile
- I think he would thrive playing alongside Bruno and Rashford
- I would be alternating Felix with Martial at CF. He can also rotate with Bruno at the 10 and either wing position
