This is what porn does to you..
1) Imbalance in the reward circuit.
Internet porn correlates to an elevated tonic firing of dopamine in the NAcc circuits.
This means,
As you watch porn the dopamine rush you get is way beyond normal. This imbalances your dopamine baseline
2) Supernormal stimulus.
High-speed internet means you can have 20 tabs open with all sorts of fetishes and depravity. Eventually, the stimulus is so potent, It conditions your mind. This is your new normal. Regular sex will not excite you.
3) Reinforcement. Your reward system is programmed to make you repeat things that elevate dopamine. This is why you know instinctively you have to drink water. From the first drop, the brain is programmed to know it is crucial for survival. Porn hijacks this mechanism.
4) Neuro-adaptation. Repeated porn use induces upregulation of Delta FosB. A transcription factor that promotes neuroplasticity by forming new neural pathways. Once formed these pathways constantly need to be fed. It manifests as cravings.
Okay so all this is happening.. How do I stop? I just cant seem to for more than a few days..
Well here’s what you need to know.
Fighting a porn addiction is very similar to how you would fight any addiction.
The underlying processes remain the same.
How?
First, understand why you relapse.
Addiction-related dopamine spikes create powerful memories in your brain
