There has been a seasonal outbreak in Lassa fever
The institute of Viral Hemorrhagic fever has confirmed an increase in the number of admissions of people with Lassa fever
This number will increase as we approach the peak of the Lassa fever month
LASSA is caused by a virus called Lassa Virus.
It is spread to humans by having contact with food and items contaminated the with a certain infected rat's feces and urine.
It can also be spread from man to man
The Rat that carries the virus is called the MASTOMYS Rat (not any Rat).
It also called the MultiMammate rat (because it has plenty Breasts. (Mammary glands) see the picture below
Some symptoms include
Fever
Feeling tired
Sore throat
Headache
Muscle pain
Vomitting
Diarrhea
Abdominal pain
Deafness has also been reported
In severe cases can start bleeding
Some ways to prevent
Ensure Environmental sanitation
Ensure food are well covered and stored
Cover your Dustbin
Don't dry your foodstuff on the floor in open space
Reduce bush burning which can cause the rats to run into homes
Try and eliminate the rats from your home
As of now only Few Labs in Nigeria can test for Lassa fever
