ChatGPT can’t do everything (yet)
7 ways old-fashioned marketing can still add millions (and beat the machines):
1. Good old user research.
It won't tell you what your customers need.
It won't be able to deduce unmet desires.
You need to talk to your customers and observe them.
2. Positioning that radically stands out.
Sure, it can help with headlines.
You still need to position your product against the competition (direct & indirect).
Figure out unique attributes, benefits of those attributes, who cares a lot, and how to place in the market.
3. Strategic judgment.
Which customers are the best for your product?
Which market is the most attractive?
Which distribution channel should you exploit first?
Naval said, "In an age of leverage, one correct decision can win everything."
4. Pricing & packaging.
This is part of science and art.
Figuring out value-based pricing and using psychology to make the user feel good about their decision.
It turns out we still need to do that.
5. Relationship building.
Sure, it can automate your help document answers and help your customers answer those questions by automating answering those emails.
But customers' queries & objections are more nuanced than that.
Build relationships to get ahead.
6. Emotional storytelling.
Humans are wired with stories. Sure you can get some hooks and some good liners.
But making that story appealing and more human.
It might never be able to replace.
7. Creating content that resonates.
I'm not talking about that Steve jobs podcast interview.
I'm talking about Wait But Why.
The Netflix shows that you binge on.
Sure, AI might replace this at some point, but you still need to do it now.
The tool is powerful and will definitely help marketers.
I also use it regularly. But I'm happy that these skills will still be in demand.
And marketers who use AI effectively will be too.
What else did I miss that ChatGPT3 can't do? I'd love to know.
