10 PARADOXES YOU MUST BEWARE OF:
1. The Paradox of persuasion:
Arguing is a cheap waste of time. See every interaction as an opportunity to learn something new.
Observe, state your opinions calmly, back them with facts or credible sources, listen deeply, ask questions, and correct your reasoning if need be.
2. The paradox of simplicity:
The hallmark of brilliance is simplicity. The fastest way to internalize a new concept is to explain it to a toddler. School rewards memorization, but life rewards understanding.
3. The paradox of money:
Money can't buy happiness, neither can poverty. The symbols of wealth are;
- Autonomy over time
- financial freedom
- Loving relationships
- Sound health
- Personal fulfillment
- A fit body
- A calm & creative mind
Aim to be multi-dimensionally rich.
4. The Paradox of advice:
The people who love you the most will give you the worst advice. Taking in advice from multiple sources will only leave you conflicted. Listen to your heart, and only seek actionable advice from people who have achieved what you’re gunning for.
5. The spotlight illusion:
People don’t think of you as much as you think as much as you do. Everyone is just as self-obsessed as you. Let go of your fear of embarrassment and judgment. Be the main character of your life.
6. The negativity paradox:
A compliment is easily forgotten, but an insult is not. Your brain exaggerates negatives and downplays positives. Left unchecked, this bias will make you an insecure overthinker. So for every complaint you make, find 5 things to be grateful for.
7. The no-progress illusion:
You underestimate yourself because you have no idea how much people are being inspired and motivated by your work. The hate will always be louder than the support. Forge ahead nonetheless.
8. The paradox of fortune:
You never truly know the chain effect of any event. A fortunate event today could bring great misfortune tomorrow. An enemy today could become a loyal friend tomorrow. And every failure is a step closer to success.
Be steady-hearted.
9. The paradox of knowing:
It’s best to believe that you know nothing;
1 - Because it’s true
2 - Because it gives you the biggest room to learn & grow.
The Dunning-Kruger effect is valid for all - the less you are willing to accept this, the truer it is for you.
10. The paradox of hard work:
Unlearn the idea that you need to constantly keep busy. Creativity explodes in conscious idleness. You are a human being, not a human doing.
