If Tlon had an official mission statement, it would be to build an exceptional user experience for general purpose personal computing in the cloud.
Our initial problem was to make general purpose personal computing in the cloud *possible*—that’s why we worked on Urbit first.
We evolved Urbit as a system in pursuit of a better user experience, but now it’s clear that Urbit, as infrastructure, can power a wide variety of things outside of the scope of what we, as Tlon, are building.
This is incredibly exciting, and a future we always envisioned.
Now it’s time for Tlon to focus entirely on the products we build and let the @urbitfoundation take a more active role in caring for @urbit’s core development.
We’ll continue to contribute to the core of the system, but we won’t be the primary core developers.
Unfortunately, this means we’re parting ways with a number of people we’ve worked with for quite some time.
We wouldn’t be where we are without their contributions and hope they remain active in the Urbit ecosystem.
If you’ve been following our work closely and want to learn more about this phase shift for Tlon, check out the ~2023 Winter Updates channel in ~nibset-napywn/tlon.
