99% of people don't ask good questions at the end of a job interview.
This is what separates mediocre candidates from the must-hires.
Here are 10 questions I used to land jobs at Google and Microsoft:
1/ If we were doing my performance review right now, what would I have done this year for you to say I excelled in my role?
This question shows that you care about exceeding expectations.
Additionally, it will give you some context on what your manager cares about.
2/ What are the most critical tasks to be completed in the next 90 days?
This question shows the interviewer you have a sense of urgency and can prioritize.
You're already acting as someone who has the job, which shows confidence and interest in delivering value since day 1.
3/ If I could snap a finger right now and change anything about the company, what would it be and why?
Use this question to get a sense of what the company's challenges are.
It's a good probing question to understand if there's something fundamentally flawed with the business.
4/ How do you make sure your employees implement your mission and values into their daily work day? And how do you hold them accountable?
This question shows that you care about the big picture AND the small details to get things done.
Great question to impress the interviewer.
5/ What are some of the possible career trajectories after this role?
This question helps you determine whether there is a career path for you beyond the role you're applying for.
Many times you'll realize that mobility is limited because of location or some other factor.
6/ When was the last time someone in this role got promoted?
This question will tell you a lot about how the company and hiring manager view career development.
You must assess whether you'll be stuck at a job for the next 5 years without the possibility to move up the ladder.
7/ Why is this position open?
This question helps to get clarity on the reason why the company is hiring.
Did they just get funded by VCs and they are on a hiring spree?
Is the company expanding to capture market share?
Did someone quit?
8/ Can you tell me the one thing you like the most and the least about working here?
Let's face it. No company is perfect.
There will always be things people love and hate about their jobs and workplace.
If the interviewer can't answer this candidly, take it as a red sign.
9/ What separates someone who's adequate from someone who's exceptional at this position?
This will give you an early indicator of what your performance review could look like.
Are you exceptional because you delivered results or because you stayed late at your boss's request?
10/ How do you think the company will evolve in the next 5 years?
Pair this question with an interesting fact about the company.
Research the company thoroughly to sound informed.

Bonus
Send a thank you note to the interviewer with a follow-up question.
Examples:
Did any of my answers raise any areas of concern?
Would you like more clarification on anything?
Be genuine. Be authentic.
And most importantly, remember that you're also interviewing them.
