The fentanyl supply is being cut even further with an animal tranquilizer known as xylazine, (street names: tranq, zombie drug) .
It causes horrific skin wounds to erupt, (reminiscent of Krokodil), and amputation may be necessary.
Also can’t be reversed with Narcan.
It’s flooded Philly already. Clinics that treat wounds have seen a more than 3x increase in visits.
It’s in the drug supply at significant levels in 31 states + DC.
The stuff eats flesh and the withdrawals are sheer hell. There is no protocol yet for treating withdrawal.
The FDA and DEA have been slow to act. Treatment clinics and nonprofits are already overwhelmed with fentanyl. Florida has scheduled it as a controlled substance but the federal government hasn’t yet.
This needs to be acted on quickly, if this follows the previous trajectory of pain pills, heroin, and opioids, it’s going to become a major national problem that will swamp an already-overloaded system on both public and private levels.

So far, I haven’t seen any indication that this is being trafficked through Mexico. Because it’s not scheduled, it’s actually somewhat easy to obtain through licit means.
It took less than 10 minutes for me to find a seller in Shanghai who ships direct to the U.S.
It took another five minutes for me to find several US-based online veterinary supply companies that could have it shipped to my house in two days, albeit at a higher cost ($26.95 for 100 doses).
I hear the question a lot: Why would drug dealers sell something so toxic to their customers? Isn’t that bad business?
Good question, and smart dealers don’t do this.
But most street dealers are addicts themselves, not people who are thinking about long-term business strategy.
