One of Ramana Maharshi's teachings is to surrender to god. But when surrendering happens, who is it that surrenders? Because if one tries to surrender, isn't that assuming that there is a separate self who has control?

Here I would like to share an incident from the Mahabharat.
Draupadi, was being stripped off her clothes by Dushashan, the brother of Duryodhan, in the palace hall in front of hundreds of people, ministers, soldiers and dignitaries.

Even her powerful husbands who kill demons and could challenge gods were mute spectators since she was lost in the stupid bet.

She was holding on to her robes with all her might, and started praying to Lord Krishna.

She was recollecting incident after incident where she helped Krishna earlier, and cried to Krishna saying these incidents one after another, and asked Him to have mercy and help her in return now.

Finally, as she was being slowly overpowered, she lifted both her hands, and cried decisively, โMy Lord Krishna! I surrendered myself totally to your lotus feet. My honour and modesty are your responsibilities. Thy will be doneโ.

Krishna took control, was sending bales of cloth covering her, as Dushashan was peeling off infinite robes for hours, confused, bewildered, finally fainting on the floor.
โShe surrendered to Krishnaโ means, There is all Krishna & no Draupadi, not a micron of Draupadi leftโ.
โShe surrendered to Krishnaโ means, There is all Krishna & no Draupadi, not a micron of Draupadi leftโ.
Even if a micron of Draupadi was present in her, the great queen and a pious woman, there is no possibility of her giving up her struggle to save her modesty.
