1. Data from Malaysian military branches were reportedly stolen by a hacker group last year, according to the cybersecurity firm Group-IB.
The hacker group, which has been dubbed Dark Pink, is believed to be linked to an Asian government.
2. The group was said to have used phishing emails and advanced malware to breach the defences of military branches in the Philippines and Malaysia, government agencies in Cambodia, Indonesia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and a religious organization in Vietnam.
3. Group-IB’s report says the group’s primary goals are to “conduct corporate espionage, steal documents, capture the sound from the microphones of infected devices, and exfiltrate data from messengers”.
The group is believed to have been active since mid-2021.
4. However, the attacks ramped up only a year later, using what was described as a “sophisticated mixture of custom tools to breach the defences of multiple government and military organizations”.
