These 10 Mistakes that Can KILL Your Performance Max Campaigns.
Here's exactly how to avoid them and keep profit high:
๐Ÿงต
1. Not Enough Assets
PMax automates:
- Bidding
- Delivery
- Targeting
- Ad creation
...based on the content you provide them with.
Ideally: Upload 15-20 images, 4-5 headers & descriptions.
You are limiting the AI by not giving it enough assets to combine and test.
2. Not adding audience signals
Create audiences for site visitors, cart abandonments, product viewers & more.
Add Interests & Detailed Demographics to audience signals.
Not doing so will mean Google will just be guessing until they find your audience...
Burning up your money.
3. Not separating conversion winners
Split out products with good conversion rates but low ROAS into separate Performance Max campaigns.
This ensures that they don't monopolise your ad spend.
Be careful:
Removing products from campaigns can kill cross-pollination of sales.
4. Not giving the campaign enough time
Allow Performance Max campaigns 2 full weeks to collect data & insights.
Reassess after 2 weeks.
Scale slowly.
Changes can drastically affect performance and then it'll take 2-4 weeks to get back to where it was.
5. Not scheduling your ads
Some ads perform during specific times.
Check performance max campaign's overview.
Narrow down to single days and check for emerging patterns
Modify ad schedule to these patterns.
This will make it more efficient and cost-effective.
6. Not using ad extensions
Ad extensions help your ads take up more space and can improve CTR by 10%
Try these:
- Address common questions.
- Include Extra product info
- Contact information
- Reviews
7. Advertising to too many locations
Limit campaigns to one location at a time.
Otherwise, the algorithm can get confused trying to tailor to 50 different search styles for 50 different countries.
8. You stop running other campaign types
Exclusively relying on Pmax will compromise effectiveness & negatively impact performance.
Run Performance Max alongside other successful campaigns.
This will allow Pmax to learn from other campaigns & improve faster.
9. Not Adjusting your Budget Weekly
Not Adjusting your Budget Weekly
Go to the 'Settings' tab and adjust the budget strategy.
Increase by 10-20% every 7 days.
Pmax campaigns take time to show the best results, so reassess first before changing.
10. Neglecting your landing page
No ad campaign can save a poor offer or landing page.
Ensure your ad copy is reflected on your destination page.
Track user behaviour on your site with HotJar or Clarity.
Understand user pain points to optimise offers & get more business.
That's a wrap!
