The average age of first exposure to pornography is 11.
15 counter-cultural tips for parents who want to fight the sexualisation of children:
1. BE VIGILANT
Your children are your most important task. BY FAR.
A father who prioritises his work or social status above his children is failing.
Spend time with your kids. Talk to them.
Listen - especially to what they DON'T say.
2. IT'S YOUR DUTY
You can never *entirely* delegate the education of your children to others.
To tolerate immoral or inadequate sex education being given to your children outside their home is WRONG.
You must give not only reactive but PREVENTATIVE education.
3. STAND STRONG
Schools must not teach anything contrary to the parents' wishes.
Weakness invites attack.
If necessary, remove your child from the lessons or school and contact the relevant authorities.
Nobody can provide moral education regarding sex better than parents can.
4. CONTROL TECHNOLOGY
Most teenagers are watching porn online.
Why? Because most parents are too lazy to monitor them.
This risks depression and impotence.
Even adults find smartphones addicting.
Teenagers have lower impulse control and need protecting from them.
5. LEAD BY EXAMPLE
A mother who values her maternal vocation within the home develops femininity in her daughters and inspires respect for noble womanhood in her sons.
A masculine father will be admired by his sons and inspire respect and security in his daughters.
6. SEX-SPECIFIC INSTRUCTION
Fathers should educate their sons about sex. Explain that physical prowess isn’t the main mark of manhood. Virtue is. β€˜Vir’ is Latin for man.
Mothers should educate their daughters. Encourage girls to value motherhood and homemaking. Model modesty.
7. EXPLAIN SOCIAL ROLES
Talk about the purposes of the natural differences between men and women.
Society is natural to human beings, and being a man or a woman is calling to different social roles.
These are goals to ASPIRE to.
They build on biology and perfect it.
8. PRESERVE INNOCENCE
Before puberty,
- don’t discuss sex at all
- especially not homosexuality or other perversions
- teach modesty and reserve around strangers
- discourage any early signs of masturbation
Counter bad information from elsewhere as lightly as possible.
9. CORRECT HEDONISM AND MATERIALISM.
Help children discipline the senses, developing self-control and restraint.
For boys in particular, explain that indulgence is weakness whereas temperance is strength.
Explain that greater pleasure requires greater strength to control it.
10. MAKE THEM SEE YOU AS THE AUTHORITY.
At puberty, explain that sex is for
1) procreation within marriage
2) bonding the parents for the sake of the family.
Teach children about the changes in their bodies and their purpose BEFORE their peers do.
And do it in MORE DETAIL.
11. SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE DOESN'T MEAN MORALLY RIGHT.
Explain that homosexuality is disordered:
What is sex for? Procreation.
Can gays procreate? No.
Similarly, explain why CONTRAception, like IVF, is CONTRAry to natural law.
But say viagra isn’t. That provokes thought.
12. DON'T LET SEX ED BECOME A TROJAN HORSE
- No role playing
- No erotic material in sex education
- No asking of questions about personal sexual information
- No frightening pictures of childbirth
- Explain why fornication violates children's rights and increases abortions
13. MODESTY MATTERS
Insist on modest dress for girls.
Age 16 is when girls are most at risk of rape.
But boys should also be taught to dress modestly and to avoid situations where they might be tempted beyond their powers to resist.
14. HAVE LARGE FAMILIES
They help children to appreciate a simpler lifestyle, value life, and respect privacy.
They also encourage selflessness, and chastity is difficult for selfish people.
An extra sibling is better than for child than an extra holiday is.
15. SEX IS GOOD
But β€˜the greater a good, the more the order of reason must be observed in it’.
- Aquinas.
Intense pleasure demands control.
Teenagers feeling overpowered should be taught the power of prayer and the Sacraments of Penance and the Eucharist.
