I grew from 0-1k followers.
It made me realize that most Twitter growth threads are useless.
They keep telling you to.
• Engage
• Tweet.
• Write threads...
But that isn't all you need to get to 1k.
Open this and discover the secret SAUCE they hide from you.
<< A Thread>>
Before we dive in...
I'll love to ASSUME that you already know that for you to grow....
You need:
• A good profile pic
• A good banner.
• A clear bio
You also need to...
• Write threads.
• Engage.
So I won't make mention of any of these here...
It has been over said.
I've seen it a thousand times... And they're right.
For you to grow you need them.
But there's a game under that game everyone is playing.
The people that hit 1k... Play there and that's why they hit it.
And that's what I'll tell you here...
1) Make a big account take a bet on you.
This is the number one secret.
One major factor to my growth is having big accounts that supported me.
That's the truth.
This is why a lot of people don't make it to 1k.
Look...
When I started...
I had people who started with me.
Now I'm above 1k but many of them are still below 100.
Big accounts supporting you doesn't mean they always retweet your stuff.
NO.
It just mean they back you up... They want to see you succeed.
But how the hell do you do this...
Well it's easy.
You find the particular person and DM them.
Now one mistake a lot of people make is this.
When they DM a big account.... They want something.
And it shows.
I'm not a big account YET.
But I can sense it.
I know those that want something from me...
The conversation usually goes something like...
Them: Hey Excel... I love your content.
Me: Thanks. It means a lot.
Them: Can we hop on a call? Or Let's host a space.
Immediately I'm out of there.
If you're DMing bigger creators... You have to do one of two things...
1) Offer them value for free.
2) Ask for advice.
Most people can't do number 1.
So it's best you do number 2...
Let me explain how you make them take a bet on you...
a) Ask for advice on something that can be measured.
Like...
How can I go from 0 to 50 followers.
Asking for a specific advice helps. It's easier to respond to you.
b) Once they respond... Thank them for their advice and go.
c) Implement whatever they tell you...
Push yourself to hit that 50 followers.
When you've gotten it.
Go back to the big account...
Tell them you've gotten it.
Believe me... They're always happy when they give advice and you implement.
Do this and they'll be watching you.
They'll respond when you need help
Once you've done this go back to step a) and repeat.
Just know that I practice what I preach
2) Don't listen to everything big accounts say.
You might feel I'm contradicting myself.
But I'm not.
The idea here is to filter whatever they tell you.
Let me give you an example.
Big accounts nowadays tell you to shit post
Right??
I'm sure you've heard this...
But see.
They have thousands of followers that love them.
But you?
You have just 30 followers who don't have any idea that you exist.
Taking that advice would just hurt the personal brand you're building.
Instead take advice from those two steps ahead of you.
3) Personality over value.
I know you've heard a lot of gurus say give value and get followers.
Well... people that ACTUALLY get to 1k know that value can be gotten anywhere.
People can get the so called "value" on Google and YouTube.
That's the reason you're not growing...
As a small account... It doesn't matter how good your value is...
People won't listen to you.
If a big account takes exactly what you said and tweets it... He'll get engagements.
That's just how the game is.
As a small account you're meant to focus on three types of content..
a) Personality: Tweets that show how you think.
Your approach to solving problems:
This thread is an example of mine.
Tell a personal story at any chance you have.
And I don't mean what you had for breakfast ( I ate noodles by the way🤤)
This should be about 50%.
b) Inspiration + motivation: This should be tweets that inspire people.
Your:
• Wins and;
• Failures.
Be careful how you frame your wins... So it doesn't look like you're bragging.
When I had 150+ followers... a single tweet took me to 320 in 2 days.
This should be 30%.
c) Fishing tweets:
Tweets that make people click your profile.
Tweets about your banner, bio or profile picture.
This one is so powerful... if people like what they see... You'll get followed.
But do this 10% of the time.
Then the so-called value should also be 10%.
5) Build connections.
If you check all the accounts that hit 1k in the past 7 days... You'll see we're all connected.
• Habiba (@witHabibay)
• Sebastian (@modern_mindset)
• Avigail (@AvigailLaing)
That should tell you something.
If you don't know how to do so... DM me.
6) Be a good listener.
If you've applied all I've said...
It's time to listen for signal...
• What worked.
• What didn't work.
• What can I improve on.
That's how this thread was born.
I listened.
So...
Apply.
Reflect
Double down.
7) Mindset.
This one is very important.
When I hit 1k some days back...
A lot of people kept asking me how long did it take you to get to 1k
I didn't want to answer that question because...
It might take 30 days or 100 days or 1 year....
But the journey is what matters.
Aaaand that's a wrap
This thread took an awful amount of time to write.
And I have exams this morning.
So before you go...
1) Join 1200+ people in following (☞ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)☞ @excelumeohana
2) Retweet the tweet at the top as a way of saying thank you.
I would love to help one person build their account to 1k+
This is to see how well I can apply my own strategies for other people.
I'll handle the strategy... writing tweets... threads etc.
If you're interested... Send a DM ( it's NOT free or cheap).
