7 unconventional habits that changed my life:
(you haven’t heard these before)
I want to start out by stating this isn’t a crappy clickbait thread.
Here’s what’s NOT included:
• Gym
• Sleep
• Alcohol
• Meditating
• Journalling
• Social Media
With that out of the way…
Here’s the habits that have made me 10x happier.
1. Give away the best plate
Picture this.
You’re cooking dinner for your partner.
When it comes time to plating up there’s always one plate that looks a bit better.
The one you really want.
What do you do?
Give it away.
Why?
Call it karma—but giving is a powerful thing.
It makes you feel good.
You don’t have to be a billionaire giving millions to charity to get the same feeling.
Small acts of kindness—like this—have the same effect.
Give and feel good.
2. Declutter sentimental things
Humans have a tendency to assign sentimental value to objects.
Family heirlooms for example.
But we also tend to hate the feeling of being tied down.
I felt this when a family member passed away.
You feel obliged to keep random stuff because “It’s a memory”.
But the truth is—memories are stored in your head.
Throwing clutter away frees your brain.
Realise you’re not throwing away a memory.
3. Listening to brown noise
This is something I’ve done recently and it’s had profound effects.
I struggle to switch my brain off.
Sometimes it’s like a washing machine full of ideas.
But that makes focusing a challenge.
Brown noise is like ear plugs for the brain.
The frequency of the sound has a significantly calming effect.
And it stops my brain from going at 100MPH constantly.
If you need to sit and get some work done but your brain isn’t cooperating.
Try brown noise.
4. Write 2 to-do lists for the same tasks
I saw this on Youtube and it’s a great productivity hack.
Let me explain…
2 lists but with the same tasks.
Different in one important way:
List 1: Tasks you’d like to complete today
List 2: Tasks you NEED to complete to reduce future stress
Your instant focus goes on list 2.
Then you move onto list 1.
If you’re struggling to prioritise your work—do this.
Simple but crazy effective.
5. The 2 minute rule
Fairly simple this one.
If you need to do something and it’ll take less than 2 minutes—do it immediately.
I used to be terrible for procrastination but this has helped me immensely.
6. Hanging out with your family
I speak from experience when I say this…
You won’t realise how important they were until they’re gone.
Family can be annoying.
But they’re your only link to the past.
Spend time with them.
Learn from them.
7. Reframe bad luck
Sh*t happens.
You get unlucky.
But don’t let it beat you up for long.
Ask yourself this:
“How could this be the best thing that’s ever happened to me”
In my experience the ‘worst’ luck in my life has resulted in changing my path for the better.
Some of my biggest wins started as terrible events.
You adapt. Learn. Change your outlook.
And it has powerful effects.
In summary:
• Give away the best plate
• Declutter sentimental items
• Listen to brown noise
• Write 2 to-do lists
• The 2 minute rule
• Hang out with your family
• Reframe bad luck
That's a wrap!
