1. The government is studying the need to float the prices of chicken eggs and provide subsidies for the B40 group, Mohamad Sabu says.
The MAFI Minister adds, discussions are being held with MOF, KPDN and the Economy Ministry.
2. Meanwhile, Mohamad Sabu says the shortage of eggs is expected to be resolved in the coming few months, as discussions on subsidy matters are underway with producers to increase supply in the market.
3. He adds that Malaysia would stop importing eggs from India when the domestic production is adequate.
He says the temporary measure was taken as local producers were unable to meet consumers’ demands.
4. Mohammad Sabu also says that based on public views, his ministry received the “lowest rating” in terms of performance due to the shortage of chickens and eggs.
He has outlined several main directions for MAFI to address national food security.
5. They include empowering the aquaculture industry, expanding cattle feedlot farming and grain corn cultivation, increasing youths’ involvement in the agro-food sector and smart agriculture as well as empowering agricultural training institutes to produce high-quality graduates.
