Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله said:
Whoever seek's Istigātha through the dead or from the absent in times of adversity of stress, and asks him to fulfill his needs, and he says: "Oh my master, Oh so and so seeks seeks aid and help from him, or he says this when he is sick or poor
or for other needs. This is a misguided ignorant mushrik, who is disobedient to Allāh according to the consensus of the Muslims.
For they unanimously agreed that the dead is not to be called upon and nothing is sought from him, whether he is a Prophet, an old man, etc."
