Why are conservatives so averse to protecting the environment? What is conservativism about, if not to conserve the most sacred necessity for human life—the air, land and water we need to survive and prosper?

Many (not all) conservatives are reflexively anti-Left, regardless of the merits of the argument at hand. Thus they contribute to a polarizing, toxic discourse that is based on antagonism rather than an interest in bettering the lives of others.

I’ve had conservatives message me in private saying they agree. But they self-censor because we live in a social media age where one fears backlash from their follower base. Even conservatives who claim to be “counter-current” are subjected to mob rule, just a different mob.
