The most important part of this isn't that it's happening, which has been the presumption for decades, but that it's happening a decade earlier than fairly recent projections suggested. asia.nikkei.com

Not just Chinese projections either. It's not long ago that the UN projection had the Chinese population peaking between 2030 and 2035.
A reminder that Japan, the poster child for demographic issues, now has the highest fertility rate in developed East Asia, above Hong Kong or Macau, China, South Korea or Taiwan. (Data from the Population Reference Bureau)
