1. The government has eased conditions for hiring foreign workers in five critical industries, the Human Resources Ministry says.
They are manufacturing, construction, plantations, agriculture and food and beverage.
2. Minister V. Sivakumar says employers in these sectors could submit applications through its Foreign Worker Centralised Management System.
He adds, approvals would be given within three working days.
3. He says employers, who had applied in the FWe Approval and eQuota Modules before January 17, should submit new applications.
"The new applications in the FWe Module will allow them to be considered under the Foreign Workers Relaxation Plan."
4. The ministry also confirms that advertisements of vacancies on the MyFutureJobs Portal would be exempted with immediate effect.
Meanwhile, KDN says employers, who managed to bring in foreign workers under the new plan, will have six months to comply with the preconditions.
5. Minister Saifuddin Nasution adds, this includes adhering to labour laws by qualifying for the foreign worker hiring quota under the ministry and paying the minimum wage.
He says action can be taken against those who violate these regulations.
6. Saifuddin also says employers, who obtain conditional approvals from KSM to employ foreign workers under this plan, need to settle levy payments at the Immigration Department before choosing their staff from the source countries.
7. Under the plan, which takes effect from Jan to Mac 31, employers are allowed to employ foreign workers from 15 source countries based on the employer’s ability and needs.
They are also exempted from going through employment eligibility preconditions and quotas.
