Happy birthday, @MichelleObama ๐ŸŽ‚
On this day, sharing 7 great life lessons from her recent book, The Light We Carry.
{Thread} ๐Ÿงต
1) It's okay to recognize that self-worth comes wrapped in vulnerability, and that what we share as humans on this earth is the impulse to strive for better, always no matter what.
We become bolder in brightness. If you know your light, you know yourself.
2) Doubt comes from within.
You have to learn how to identify and then tame something within. You have to practice past those fears.
The more you practice, the better you get at it. Each leap will make the next leap easier.
3) Discomfort is a teacher.
Lack of reward is a teacher.
Dealing with these things gives us practice at life, helping us figure out who we are when we're little pushed.
4) When good things happen, be happy for your kid
When bad things happen, help them process it.
And most importantly, love them regardless of whether they succeed or failed.
5) Nobody survives a hero's journey undefended.
The challenge in leading a big life becomes trying to find ways to protect your dreams and your drive, to remain tough without being overly guarded, to stay nimble and open to growth, allowing others to see you for who you are.
6) Progress requires creativity and imagination. It always has. Ingenuity is born of boldness.
We have to be able to envision what's possible, summoning it from the unknown - the sort of world we hope to live in - in order to even begin to actualize a plan to get there.
7) Read books by people whose perspective is different from yours, listen to voices you haven't heard before, look for narratives that are new to you.
In them and with them, you might end up finding more room for yourself.
