1. Penang has sufficient pork supply, despite 11 commercial pig farms in Seberang Prai having reported cases of African Swine Fever, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow says.
He adds that the state, being the exporter of pigs, has a surplus of supply.
2. Chow says, at the moment, the export was slightly affected as they could not move the pigs out of Penang, but he could not reveal the losses suffered by the affected pig farms.
He adds, Penang will not import pork from other states.
3. Meanwhile, Chow says the state government will work with the Penang Development Corporation to obtain land for the disposal of pig carcasses that were infected with ASF.
β€œBurying is the most suitable method because of the large number of carcasses involved.”
4. β€œPDC has land which can be used as it is not yet sold to the industry.
β€œWe hope this land is far from settlements to avoid impact on any party,” the Penang Chief Minister adds.
