Traditional school doesn’t make you more intelligent.
It makes you mediocre.
Here’s how school produces obedient, subservient, average thinkers (and how to achieve greatness instead):
1. School made you a mediocre thinker
School taught you what to think, not how to think.
You were taught to accept knowledge as it was given to you.
Not to question it.
Not to create it yourself.
How to become an above-average thinker:
• Question everything
• Read more books instead of scrolling social media or watching TV
• Learn to create your own knowledge through lived experience and trial and error
2. The school system forces teachers to conform
Schools micromanage teachers and bury them in bureaucracy.
Even the most enthusiastic teachers eventually succumb to teaching for the test.
They're forced to settle for bare minimum mediocrity — for themselves and their students.
How to find above-average teachers:
• Find schools that treat teachers well
• Look for microschools, private schools, or other alternative schools where teachers have autonomy
• Look for teachers that are experts in life skills like motivation, mindset, and achieving goals
3. Schools taught you a dumbed-down curriculum
Public schools must reach state standards to acquire funding.
As a result, curriculums have been dumbed down to make them easier to understand.
How to find an above-average curriculum:
• One that shoots above and beyond the minimum standards
• One that emphasizes individualized attention over standardization
• One that allows your child to reach their full potential
4. Schools are destroying gifted programs
The few gifted programs that are left are being decimated in the name of “equality” over excellence.
Schools are no longer places where genius is nurtured. Instead, school has become a glorified babysitter.
How to ensure your child gets above-average opportunities:
• Choose schools that offer accelerated programs
• Better yet, find options that allow your child to self-pace and learn as quickly as they want
• Ensure these programs offer support in life skills, too
5. School encouraged you to set “realistic” (read: mediocre) goals
Schools should encourage kids to shoot for the stars.
But there are no classes on how to start your own business, find your passion, or become the best at whatever you love doing.
How to set above-average goals:
• Set goals that feel uncomfortable, but exciting. That's how you know they're ambitious enough
• Don't limit yourself to what is realistic for your age
• Surround yourself with other ambitious people
To reach your highest potential, you must shake off the mediocre mindset that school has programmed you to have.
And if you have kids in school, don’t let this happen to them.
