1. Transport Minister Anthony Loke has gone viral on social media, following several posts highlighting that his grandfather, Loke Ching Fatt, popularised the famous Yee Sang dish.
Ching Fatt originally called the dish Sup Kum Yee Sang (εζ„Ÿι±Όη”Ÿ, or β€œTen Senses Yee Sang”).
2. According to SCMP, Ching Fatt left China and came to Malaya in the 1920s, where he settled down in Seremban.
He eventually opened a catering business and introduced yee sang to his menu in the 1940s.

3. The dish had become a hit with the Chinese community and attracted lots of people to the Loke family home, with queues of customers stretching out onto the street.
Ching Fatt’s recipe was passed down to Anthony’s father, Chee Chow, who opened a restaurant in 1974.
4. β€œI am always proud of the fact that my grandfather started this very localised cultural tradition,” Anthony told SCMP.
β€œLo sang is popular only in Malaysia and Singapore … not in Hong Kong or China.”
