2. Statistics are similar for cancer and stroke, two other leading causes of death and disability. We have more oncologists, neurologists and more specialized cancer hospitals. But the incidence and deaths due to cancer and strokes have increased several times in past 50 years.
3. Why is this so?
*Doctors & hospitals are required once person gets heart disease, #Cancer or #stroke.
*Doctors and hospitals can play little role in PREVENTION.
*By investing ONLY in #Doctors and #hospitals, we can not reduce the incidence of #heartattack, cancer and stroke.

4. Deaths due to #Accidents (another major cause of death) have increased. Rise in number of vehicles and not following safety rules are responsible.
*Seat belts and helmets should be mandatory.

5. What is the way out?
*We need to raise awareness about methods of preventing diseases.
*Doctors should be trained about preventive aspects such as role of diet, exercise, stress management & sleep.
*We need more lifestyle coaches, nutritionists and fitness trainers.

6. All is not gloomy, there have been bright spots too.
*Child immunization program has been successful. Communicable diseases (& deaths due to them) have reduced.
*Maternal and infant mortality have reduced due to better mother and child care facilities and drop in infections.
