The ASER 2022 results just came out! The first stat gives us a reason to be happy-
shows us that the enrolment rate in the country has increased but see the next stat below to see what has dropped!πŸ‘‡πŸ½
Even though enrolment has increased after the pandemic, the learning levels have decreased, making the knowledge gap much wider.
What are possible reasons for higher enrolment?
1. If family income goes down, more likely that the parents will leave private schools and enrol them into government schools.
2. Many low-budget private schools were shut during the pandemic which might have led parents to shift.
3. There might be a chance that many families must have noticed state government providing mid-day meals, textbooks, learning materials, etc; families seeing the benefit of being connected to government schools, must have enrolled their children into it.
These are hypotheses.
Now what can we do about the knowledge gap?
Many more interventions that work on the knowledge gap or help children β€œcatch up” are needed. Because once fallen behind, there’s a much higher chance of dropping out as one can’t see the use of staying in school.
