If you've been dreaming💭of touring Europe for a while, now is the time to make it happen.
In this thread 🧵, I will list down the strategies that I have followed when planning my Europe Tours.
These strategies will help you🫵🏼save a ton of money💰.
So, buckle up ➡️

1. Book tickets well in advance
You’ll be surprised by how much you can save through this simple yet often-ignored tip
E.g. My personal record is 354 days😅. ss attached.
Even my upcoming travel for May 2023 was booked in September 22 (7.5 months)
How much I saved?
(3/n)
Booked return tickets from Mumbai to Rome for just ₹33000
The current price of same ticket despite being 95 days aways is ₹61000
Pro tip: If you are sure of dates and location use the track price feature in Google Flights. It sends you reminder if there's drop in price

2. Cook your own meal
Eating out in restaurants🍽️ in Europe can be really expensive🫰🏼
An average spend per day on meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) in a restaurant for an adult can range from ₹3500 - ₹6000
Hence, I cook my own meal🍲and save at least 60% on this cost
(5/n)
I travel with a family of 7. This reduction helps me save significantly
We prepare lunch with our breakfast & carry it in tiffin🎒when we head out. Dinner is made when we are back
Pro tip: When I don't have the cooking facility available at a few places, I use TheFork app
(6/n)
TheFork app is similar to the EazyDinner app. It lets me reserve table and pay at restaurants.
It gives me savings of 20% to 50%. Also, the offer is available in Indian restaurants as well.

3. Apartments over hotels
Why?
👉🏼Cheap
👉🏼More flexibility
👉🏼I get a kitchen to cook my meal
👉🏼I get a washing machine to clean my clothes and iron them
👉🏼Bigger space than a hotel room
👉🏼Get to blend in with the local lifestyle
(8/n)
I prefer Airbnb and Booking.com to discover and book a place.
Where apartments are expensive, I choose hostels.
My favorite chain is Meininger Hostels. They are clean, have kitchens, are quite organized, and are in heart of the cities🏙️
(9/n)
4. Book. Cancel. Book.
I usually go with a free cancelation policy when booking an apartment/hotel🛌🏼
From time to time, I monitor other apartments in the vicinity. If I find a good deal, I cancel the existing booking and go for the other property😎
(10/n)
This tip has saved me thousands of dollars over the years
At times,I get the same hostel/hotel on another portal at cheaper rates during the offers and I switch my position
5. Cover Europe in phases
This is a classic mistake that I committed and I don't want you to do it
(11/n)
If you're sure that you'll be visiting Europe multiple times in the coming years then don't hop in extremes i.e. going from Paris to Athens
If you're visiting Paris cover the west Europe belt alone i.e. Paris, Brussels, Antwerp, Bruges, Luxembourg, Amsterdam, etc.
(12/n)
Why?
You'll save a bomb of money on travel costs. Internal airfare may seem cheaper (Ryan air, EasyJet) but as soon as you add luggage to it, boom🧨
When you cover nearby cities, you can use bus/train and reduce costs by 80%. I use Omio to plan my internal travel
(13/n)
Here's are sample phases:
👉🏼West (France, Belgium, Netherlands, West Germany)
👉🏼South-west (Spain, Portugal, South-France)
👉🏼Central (Germany, Poland, Swiss, Czech, Hungary, etc.)
👉🏼South-East (Italy, Swiss, Greece)
👉🏼Scandinavia (Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, etc.)
(14/n)
6. Book tourist attractions earlier
Avoid long queues at popular tourist destinations by booking tickets🎟️online and in advance.
I have seen a lot of tourists standing in queue for hours ⌛️and returning disappointed without making it (Eiffel Tower).
(15/n)
7. Anchor⚓️a city and explore around
You don't have to always move with your luggage to a different city to explore it. You can make one city as your base and cover cities (<200Km) around it.
E.g. Make Brussels anchor city in Belgium and cover Ghent, Antwerp, and Bruges
(16/n)
You'll save a lot of time and money through this tip. If you stay longer at an apartment, you tend to get special discounts.
8. Public transport 🚋& Hop-on-Hop-off bus
Goes without saying that public transport is way cheaper (and more efficient) in Europe than private.
(17/n)
Check if a travel card is available in a city. It adds to your savings.
E.g. Budapest Travelcard
Also, you can use Hop-on-hop-off buses🚍. I used them in cities like Berlin and they were really good. It helps you save time on planning itinerary and includes audio guide
(18/n)
I hope these tips help you plan your Europe tour on a budget.
Backstory: I am a history buff with a keen interest in traveling. So Europe is a perfect blend for me.
Growing up in the '90s and viewing those Bollywood songs further added fuel to the fire🔥
(19/n)
There are cities that I have visited so many times but still crave e.g. Florence
My retirement plan is to start a Europe travel planning agency to help people plan custom itineraries and experience authentic local culture.
