The origin of BA.5.2 variant circulating in China can be traced back to the beginning of September 2022 in Beijing.
Nationwide, the proportion of BA.5.2 variant was 47.8% (BA.5.2.48 was 36.3%, BA.5.49 was 9.8%), and BF.7 was 45.3%, while other variants accounted for only 6.9%.
Many other variants have been detected in coastal provinces such as Shanghai, Jiangsu and Guangzhou. These variants were introduced from aboard and have not spread widely locally.
