Today is the day when Chitpawan Brahmins across Maharashtra were brutally targeted, killed, assaulted and a massacre was ravaged upon them. All of this happened under the garb of outrage to protect Gandhi's death..

Maureen L B Patterson wrote a book, "Gandhi and Godse", which she found during her research that smaller towns like Satara, Belgaum and Kolhapur were badly affected during the massacre, not the big cities like Nagpur, Mumbai and Pune which were Hindu strongholds.

When Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse at 5:17 pm at the Birla house compound on 30th January 1948, it turned into a targeted killing of Brahmins of Maharashtra. On the midnight of 30th January, 1948, this horrific event unfolded.

The attackers' primary target was Veer Savarkar, and when he was not found at his Shivaji Park home, his younger brother Dr. Narayan Savarkar was taken out and stoned. He died as a result of his injuries on October 19, 1949.

Mobs, those were mostly Congress workers, incessantly butchered 15 Brahmins from Mumbai on the same night.
A Hindi newspaper, "Ushakal '' had reported that thousands of Brahmins were brutally attacked all across the 400 districts of Satara, Maharashtra.

A Kulkarni Brahmin family was mercilessly burnt alive in the Udatre village. Cloth mills, TV's, Hospitals were ablazed, and an entire factory of RSS leader G.H Joshi was set on fire.Many more such grievous  incidents went unnoticed.

Pt. Dwarka Prasad Mishra who was the former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and a famous Congress leader wrote in his book "Living and Era'', that after the assassination of Gandhiji, mob of rioters attacked houses and shops of Brahmins and tried to torch them.

Even educational institutions run by the Brahmins were not spared". He accounts that, "heartbreaking cases of violence against the Brahmins, most of the non-Brahmin rioters were Congressmen. Some of them were also officials of Congress Committees."
