Atomic Habits by @JamesClear offers a proven framework for habit formation, reveals practical strategies to master the tiny behaviors and gives you the tools and techniques to transform your habits and achieve success that lasts. I highly recommend.
12 lessons from the book 🧡
1) A habit is a routine or behavior that is performed regularly – and, in many cases, automatically.
2) 1% BETTER EVERY DAY:
Habits are the compound interest of self improvement. If you can get just 1 percent better each day, you’ll end up with the results that are nearly 37 times better after one year.
3) The Plateau of Latent Potential:
In order to make a meaningful difference, habits need to persist long enough to break a critical threshold.
The most powerful outcomes of any compounding process are delayed. You need to be patient.
4) Three Layers of Behavior Change:
Outcome – changing your results.
Process – changing your habits and systems.
Identity – changing your beliefs.
5) Progress requires unlearning.
Becoming the best version of yourself requires you to continuously edit your beliefs, and to upgrade and expand your identity.
6) The Habit Loop:
The process of building a habit can be divided into 4 steps: cue, craving, response and reward.
The cue triggers a craving, which motivates a response, which provides a reward, which satisfies the craving and, ultimately, becomes associated with the cue.
7) The Four Laws of Behavior Change to build better habit:
- Make it Obvious (Cue)
- Make it Attractive (Craving)
- Make it Easy (Response)
- Make it Satisfying (Reward)
We can invert these laws to learn how to break a bad habit.
8) Habit Stacking:
One of the best ways to build a new habit is to identify a current habit you already do each day and then stack your new behavior on top.
9) One of the most effective things you can do to build better habits is to join a culture where:
- Your desired change is the normal behavior.
- You already have something in common with the group.
10) Never Miss Twice:
The first mistake is never the one that ruins you. It is the spiral of repeated mistakes that follows. Missing one is an accident. Missing twice is the start of a new habit.
If you miss one day, try to get back on track as quickly as possible.
11) Habits are easier when they align with your natural abilities.
You don’t have to build the habits everyone tells you to build. Choose the habit that best suits you, not the one that is most popular.
12) Everyone can work hard when they feel motivated.
It’s the ability to keep going when work isn’t exciting that makes the difference.
One of the books, I re-read every year to check where I am in my life and track on my progress.
I highly recommend it. 5/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
