Use the STAR method at your next interview to boost your chances of landing the job.
Here's how it works:
STAR stands for situation, task, action, result. It's a format that's used to effectively respond to interview questions.
Situation - provide context and describe the situation or event you were in.
Task - explain the task you had to complete
Action - describe the action you took
Result - outline the outcomes and results of your actions
Example: tell me about a time you had to help a team member with their task.
Answer (pt 1):
There were 5 engineers working on a feature including myself and a junior, we had a tight deadline & we were a week away from the scheduled release (situation).
I was in charge of making sure all development was complete in time for QA to run some tests (task).
Answer (pt 2):
The junior engineer was stuck on a ticket so I organized a 1:1 session to pair-program the problem (action).
As a result, I was able help the junior engineer pick up a new skill which they have continued to use in their future tickets (result).
