Why would Kaoru Mitoma suit Liverpool perfectly?
[THREAD]
Kaoru Mitoma is a 25 year-old winger that plays for Brighton, and has received a lot of recognition on his performances in recent months. He grew up playing in Japan and across many Japanese academies before going Brighton. He is a player I believe would suit Liverpool well.
Liverpool distribute the ball to their wide players very often as a way to get bodies forward centrally, and Mitoma shows elite examples of this play. Receives the ball out wide and notices due to the amount of bodies high and central, he cleverly uses the space in behind.
Once again, receiving the ball out wide is a common factor in LFC's game. Mitoma gets the ball in these positions so often and has the explosion of pace and spacial intelligence to beat his man and provide a pass for central forwards. He is so good at using every inch of space.
Mitoma has his back to the full back when receiving the ball in a fast pace transition (common in LFC play). His cute touch and spacial intelligence allows him to beat the full back with pace and find him and his team mates deep into the oppositions final third.
Direct.
LFC often have their FB/wingers high and wide, allowing space for interior underlaps between opposition full back and centre back. Mitoma works with the space that his full back has created for him wide, and uses the interior space in behind to convert the ball.
A factor that goes under the radar is Mitoma's pressing intelligence. His pressing is often very well thought through and effective, picking up on lose balls, uncomfortable opposition positions. LFC start their press with their forwards, usually wide, and Mitoma has shown that.
Here is another example of his interior underlaps, he pace is a common recognition of his game, and advancement of touches that combine to make it hard to tackle him. However, this running into space fast and direct is how Liverpool overflow oppositions with pressure.
He almost feels perfect for Liverpool, just even by showing a couple of examples of how the type of player and traits he has, Klopp would be able to fit this into his squad with immediate effect. Despite LFC's primary problems not being forward players, this would feel perfect.
