Always find it funny how when I freelance for tour companies here in Rome that the most fun I have is with tour groups who are predominantly Deep South American Prots. Always the most engaged and with the best sense of humor
If I give a tour to American Catholics or even Italians and explain Catholic theology or whatever their eyes just kind of glaze over, and they never get the jokes (or worse are offended by them)
Southern baptists or evangelicals always challenge and ask questions and remain engaged. Their wits are far sharper, they stay involved in the material because they want to attack it. But like in the best way possible
It’s like they’re contentious but good humored about it. Idk how to explain it, but it always results in way more fun a time
For example, if I’m showing the devices friars use for self mortification, I’ll give the long winded theological justification behind it before under my breath adding
“Or maybe they’re just kinky freaks idk.”

One of my favorite groups I gave a tour too were all from Louisiana and during it i was trying to professionally hide my own beliefs and at the end of it one of the women who was really engaged said to me “yeah I obviously know your not a Catholic but”
And I interrupted her and said “actually I am.” She stopped in her tracks and said “don’t worry hun I won’t hold it against you, my friends a Jew and we still get along just fine” I don’t think I ever laughed so hard in my life
