Ritual life is 24*7.
And since ours is a tradition that put a lot of emphasis on householder/grihastha it isn't possible for this to be a 9-5 weekday job. Neither can the spouse live a different kind of life. Also lot of extended family participation is seen in many rituals.

Individualism runs into conflict into this model. Not sure if all aspects of our ritualistic lifestyle can be subjected to democratisation or meritocratic ideals.
May be religions that don't have an emphasis on grihastha rituals are more tuned to that model?

Everyone stays in one institution, entry may be non-lineage based but since you can't avoid the 24*7 nature of ritual life you end up celibate and not create a family for yourself?
