1. The MACC believes that the National Anti-Corruption Plan needs to be reevaluated to prioritise high-impact initiatives.
MACC Policy, Planning and Research director Mohd Hafaz Nazar says this could bring significant changes to the levels of governance and accountability.
2. He adds that such a change will support the fight against corruption and abuse of power.
Mohd Hafaz also notes that Malaysia’s score in the Corruption Perceptions Index dropped, due to the lack of political will to implement the National Anti Corruption Plan.
3. This is alongside repeated governance failures, though several disclosures were made by the Auditor General.
TI-M also touched on the lack of information transparency in matters of public interest like the LCS project.
Mohd Hafaz says not all information can be disclosed.
4. "MACC would like to emphasise that throughout 2022, action had been taken in major cases of public interest such as the LCS case.
"Due to the ongoing investigation involving a foreign country, investigation information cannot be disclosed as it will affect the probe."
5. "This lack of information transparency may create a negative perception of the MACC’s investigation and the government’s commitment as if no action is taken."
TI-M also noted the perception that there was no legal action taken against public servants who abused their power.
