Another game where we used Xavi’s 3-2-2-3 system. One of the best games this season. The word which describes this performance is ‘complete’, both in terms of quality & consistency.
We conceded an unlucky own goal, but other than that, it never felt like Real Betis would score. Let me remind you that Real Betis are in the top 4 race, and one of the tougher sides to face away from home. This makes what I am about to show you even more impressive.
Real Betis had 5 shots in total. • 2 shots were blocked ✅
• 2 shots were off target ❌
• 1 shot was saved 🙌 Every shot had a low xG value, and based on the quality of their shots, we were expected to concede 0.03 goals. Ridiculously low.
Even after Kounde scored the own goal, we never crumbled. Betis managed one shot as they chased the equalizer. You can tell that team have grown from past experiences. The back four deserves praise, but so does the midfield.
Frenkie & Busquets is a perfect duo. While Busquets allows Frenkie more positional freedom, Frenkie gives Busquets less space to defend. They play on each other’s strengths, and have a great understanding.
⭐️ Busquets: 8 recoveries, 9 tackles, 5 fouls drawn, 1 foul committed. Busquets kept on winning the ball without making a free kick. ⭐️ Frenkie: 6 recoveries, 2 fouls drawn, 0 fouls committed. Frenkie did not have the same impact defensively, but he had less responsibilities.
Busquets & Frenkie had the most touches on the ball (112 & 110). They also completed the most passes, with a success rate of 93.5%. They broke the lines numerous times. • Frenkie: 13 progressive passes 🥇
• Busquets: 12 progressive passes 🥈
Gavi & Pedri played in the half spaces. Just like Busquets & Frenkie, they complemented each other well. Gavi with 6 tackles, 3 blocks & 4 recoveries. Pedri also recovered the ball 8 times, but he had more impact in the final third. 4 dribbles (🥇) & a big goalscoring threat.
To end this thread I think we should appreciate two things: 1. Raphinha’s movements in the box. Scored twice, but one was ruled out due to an offside.
2. Balde running the left side offensively & defensively. A left winger & a left back. 4 dribbles & 1 assist!
