When I was 18, I trainhopped round 7 countries in Europe.

1. Stories Are King
Meeting strangers ignited a passion for stories inside of me.
Be it the crazy hostel owner who offered to store my valuables in her fridge,
or the ranting Romanian who tried to rob me in Rome,
Travelling reveals the true face of humanity.

2. Lean On Others
I left with 2 friends, some clothes and a map.
We came into some sticky situations, only to be helped out by locals in every city.
The press would have you believe the world is 90% evil.
That's until you go out to meet the world.

3. Prepare For Chaos
Our first destination was Paris.
After that... we struggled to go anywhere.
We had to abandon plans in several countries to travel to Nice, the only place we could get to.
Life will never go the way you expect it.
The secret is embracing the chaos.

4. Indulge In Culture
I made a point of visiting the cathedral of all 10 cities.
From the Vatican to the Duomo to Notre-Dame, my mind was flooded by ineffable art and architectural mastery.

5. Document It All
I carried a leather A5 journal with an etching of a peacock for the trip.
Inside, I documented the whole time out there.
I now have that as an eternal memory to the beautiful times I spent out there.

6. Get Street Smart
Be it a guy who offers to look after your bag before entering a museum,
Be it the guy flaunting oregano instead of Mary Jane,
There are wicked hustlers in this world.
Learn to spot them and keep yourself safe.

Moments like the ones I experienced are fleeting.
They come and go before the blink of an eye.
Take a minute when you catch yourself wandering to the past or future.
The present has a habit of running away from you.
