I suck at storytelling.
Yet my stories have created over 7,500+ followers.
I had no idea what I was doing, so I created a framework.
Steal this 7-part process to create unforgettable stories and connect with your audience:
🔹 Wait!
Before we begin, here's WHY storytelling is important in all facets of life:
🔹Create a deep connection
🔹Get your customer from A to B
🔹Use it to master communication
🔹It creates unforgettable moments
🔹When you die, people still tell your stories
Ready, set, GO:
🔹Unlearn:
You're in 3rd grade.
Your teacher tells you:
"Every story has a middle, beginning, & end."
After this lesson, you will curse your 3rd-grade teacher for misguiding you with BS.
Think of your stories in terms of:
🔹Normal
🔹Explosion
🔹The New Normal
Breakdown:
🔹Bad Stories
What makes a bad story?
People don't care.
Use the new terms by:
🔹Normal - How things are
🔹Explosion - Something happens
🔹New Normal - Things are different
This creates a Transformation
The transformation is the lesson learned
Make it stick with the 4:
🔹The 4 Components
How do you make your story unforgettable?
By using these:
🔹Specifics
🔹Authentic Emotion
🔹A significant moment
🔹Identifable characters
Combine and alter these components with the:
🔹New
🔹The explosion
🔹The New Normal
And watch what happens.
But:
🔹 Spice it up
Boring stories suck. *YAWN*
You will lose attention, people won't care, and your point never gets across.
Here's the remedy:
🔹 Create tension
🔹 Use a killer intro
🔹 Poke at emotions
🔹 Provide a descriptive setting
🔹 Use details that invoke senses
Practice
🔹Practice makes perfect:
Unless you practice wrong!
You need to practice your stories in front of :
🔹Crowds
🔹On Social Media
🔹In Conversations
How do you practice right?
This will get you covered:
The 3 part story breakdown will torque your storytelling skills:
🔹The 3-Part Storytelling Breakdown:
1.) The setup
🔹 The setup creates the actions that will happen
Ex: “It was the middle of winter”
The longer the set up less people will pay attention
🔹Keep it short
🔹Use sensory words
Create tension and you'll hold their attention:
🔹The 3-Part Storytelling Breakdown:
2.) The Conflict
🔹The conflict makes tension & uncertainty
Ex:
"I built a snowman in the middle of a highway, a car came speeding towards it"
What happens next?
Will someone get hurt?
See how the works!
Solution with Resolution:
🔹The 3-Part Storytelling Breakdown:
3.)The Resolution
🔹 The resolution solves the tension between the prior 2 parts
- Example: “The car swerved away from the snowman and gave me the middle finger”
The tension is resolved.
YAY!
Here's how to practice:
🔹When starting the story:
Start with one sentence to describe each part.
Then expand:
🔹“My boss was being mean in the office.” (Setup)
🔹“He left his coffee cup in the lunchroom” (Conflict)
🔹“I spit in it .” (Resolution)
Then expand to 2 sentences. . .etc
Dont forget:
🔹 Test your story
You are a scientist and your story is an experiment.
Without testing and failing you will never get better.
Test by:
🔹 Blog posts
🔹 Dish it out online in tweets
🔹 Use a basic outline in your newsletter
🔹 Practice in conversation with loved ones
I talk about storytelling, business, & mindset
