1. Several schools in Bangkok were forced to close due to worsening air pollution.
According to the Pollution Control Department, 43 provinces, including the capital and its suburbs, remained blanketed in haze on Friday.
2. Several news outlets reported that the atmospheric PM2.5 ranged from 54 to 119 µg/m3, above Thailand’s safety limit of 50µg/m3.
The country's Education Ministry has set up coordination centres to monitor the PM2.5 situation.
3. Schools are allowed to exercise discretion and close if the dust levels are deemed unsafe.
The Ministry says a total of 376,165 people have suffered from some type of health ailments caused by the low air quality this week, an increase of 163,491 from the previous week.
4. According to IQAir, Bangkok’s air quality index stood at 198 as of Thursday, making it the third-most polluted city in the world.
However, the Thai Meteorological Department forecasted air pollution in the capital to reduce today with the arrival of strong winds.
