How to generate endless ideas as a writer:
Ever sat down to write and found you have no words to put on the page?
Frustrating, right?
I'm going to give you 5 quick tips today to never experience that sentation again.
Let's dive in, gang:
1. Live a life worth writing about
This is the biggest contributor to writer's block.
If you aren't witnessing fascinating scenarios, your mind will become as stale as month-old bread.
Try:
- Going to a museum
- Getting lost in your city
- Travelling to a lesser-known country
2. Borrow inspiration
You don't need the light bulb moment to appear all the time.
Instead, look to:
- Articles
- Blog posts
- Podcasts
- YouTube videos
Absorb content that instils inspiration for you.
NEVER plagiarise.
3. Talk to strangers
When was the last time you had a conversation with someone you don't know?
Instead of sitting solo in the coffee shop...
Ask that guy or gal you like about their day.
Ask the veteran of his experience of war.
Ask the street artist when they started.
4. Read
What is the pen as the writer's sword without the book as his shield?
Dive deep into the minds of others and fictitious realms.
Stories are what connect us as humans.
Consume them in colossal quantities.
5. Revisit old work
How many of you look at drafts you never finished?
What if the winning idea is there but you weren't in the right frame of mind to write about it at the time?
Always revisit your work. Sometimes an old idea is the best new one.
5 ways to generate endless ideas:
1. Live a life worth documenting
2. Borrow inspiration from other content
3. Talk to strangers
4. Read as much as you can
5. Revisit your old drafts
Inspiration is everywhere, gang.
Don't rely on yourself to generate it.
