Remember this when you, an admitted "novice in Islam / just a brother giving advice/ just a sister who wants good" make broad statements about what is "Islamic":
Ibn al-Qayyim says "It is impermissible to act and give fatwa in the din of Allah through desirability, selectivity...

& personal preference, seeking an opinion that agrees with his preference or those he wants to impress, giving him fatwa & ruling, or ruling against his enemy & giving him the opposite. This is from the greatest form of fisq & the greatest of major sins." Ilām al-Muwaq'in 4/162

AlMardāwi said "As for ruling by selectivity, then this is heresy (zandaqa). Such persons rulings are void and authority invalid. 'And whoever God does not grant light to then he will have no light.'" Ghidhā' al-Albāb 1/225
