1. Selling Products that Don’t Meet Needs
Successful stores understand what people want, and their market's existing frustrations.
Research the needs in the market and sell products that customers want.
Not products that you want to sell.
2. Pricing Products with 0 Research
You are not charging enough or losing money by setting the price too high.
Investigate:
- Trending market value
- Manufacturing costs
- Competitor prices
- Shipping costs
Set a price that is competitive, fair and profitable.
3. Poor Product Pages.
Poor product pages lead to:
- Low conversion rates
- Low customer satisfaction
- Poor search engine/ad rankings.
Learn the current best design practices, and add behavior/conversion tracking. This puts you in a position to optimize later.
4. No Guest Checkout.
Most customers want to skip the account creation process so they can focus on buying.
Lacking a guest checkout can cause a customer to abandon their carts.
Get around this by adding social or Gmail one-click account creation.
5. Not tracking data.
Not tracking the right data can mean burning money with the wrong decisions.
Add analytics to your store so you can:
- Create personalized campaigns
- Optimize traffic sources
- Identify product data
6. Lack of payment options.
When a customer is buying from you, they should be able to choose their preferred payment method.
Give customers many payment options to make the buying process easier.
7. Content that looks like your competition.
Avoid copying or imitating your competitors’ content.
It makes it harder for you to stand out in your ads.
And you become replaceable.
Your content needs to be unique. Focusing on your unique selling point.
8. Poor product photos
Customers won’t buy something they can’t visualize.
Use minimalistic backgrounds to enhance your product and include relevant dimensions.
Burrow, Skullcandy and Revelry use this approach to showcase their products and features.
That’s everything.
