What even is ‘Halal’ meat?
- Procedure

- Refuting objections
[A thread 🧵]
To begin with, Halal (حلال) is an Arabic word meaning ‘Permissible’ in the sense of Sharia.
And the general rule is that, everything is permissible until proven otherwise on the basis of central texts of Islam, i.e Qur'an & Prophetic Hadiths.
Anything that's not mixed with what's forbidden in Islam is always Halal, so broadly speaking, all vegetarian products are Halal by-default, except if they're not contaminated with anything Haram.
As for non-veg food, here comes the criteria of Halal-meat :
As a side note, I'd like to say that Muslims do not follow any Islamic practice *because* there's some scientific & health benefits, we follow rulings of Islam, BLINDLY because these have been ordained by the creator himself.
How can the creator go wrong about his creation?
Now, there's a particular method of slaughter to be followed which would make the meat permitted to consume. Any other way of slaughter is Haram (Forbidden) to consume
The slaughterer must cut the neck in a way that atleast three veins are cut but the spinal cord remains intact.
The animal is then allowed to drain out blood completely, although it may seem as if animal is yearning out of pain, it's just that the body is strongly contracting & relaxing so that blood from each part flows out.
Visual representation of Halal slaughter looks like this.
Once the blood is drained out to the fullest, the body of animal cools after which one may proceed with other acts of slaughter.
🔶 A commonly raised objection here is, look how much pain animal is made to go through.
The answer to this misinformed objection is that,
The windpipe, artery and jugular veins are already cut. There's no pain, since there's no transmitting of pain signal from brain at all. Animal is unconscious of the pain.
The muscles however contract & relax. Which is the most efficient way of blood drainage.
It is LESS painful as compared to stunning or sudden severing of neck. Apart from the fact that such slaughtering methods yield tough, less tender, less tasty & more disease-risky meat.
Because the blood in Jhatka (sudden cut of neck) slaughter doesn't drain out blood fully.
Which not only makes the meat tough but also may be highly risky from health POV as blood is what carries diseases in the body.
The shelf-life of such meat is also quite low, thereby impacting the producer financially as well.
“Thus, Islamic slaughtering method
showed the superior preventive effect toward lipid oxidation and microbial growth to
other methods, and could maintain the quality of cooked chicken patties during the
refrigerated storage, effectively”
— A study on Halal & Other Meats.
“Islamic slaughtering method
yielded chicken meat with the better quality and oxidative stability & it could be an effective practice to retard lipid oxidation & growth of
microorganism during refrigerated storage, in which shelf-life could be extended”
Which is why many restaurant-owners may prefer Halal slaughter over other methods, as it will benefit them financially. Ofcourse, also to cater to Muslim consumers.
For meat to be tender & juicy the pH level must not exceed beyond 7, as it does in Jhatka method.
As for Halal slaughter, it is believed that pH remains significantly lower as against other methods.
You surely do not want a biryani of tough, unchewable & blood-stained meat.
🔶 Another misconception is that Halal is discriminatory.
This is also ill-informed. For meat to be Halal, it has to be slaughtered by a sane adult Muslim (or) anyone from people of book (Christians & Jews).
Afterall, People of these faiths worship one ultimate God, Allah. It's just that they've gradually contaminated the true faith.
As for Mushrikeen (Polytheists), the slaughter of them will not be permitted for Muslims to consume. Which is fairly justified, because why must not Islam offer a few beneficial provisions to those who follow Islam?
Apart from the fact that this condition is only for slaughter.
Anything before or after the slaughter can be carried out by anyone including a Polytheist. It doesn't effect the Permissiblity.
So the objection that Halal process DOESN'T include anyone except Muslims is a lie & an unfaithful propoganda with no merits whatsoever.
There are MANY brands both owned by Muslim & Non-Muslims who serve Halal food with Certifications across the world.
There are many Muslim NGOs & other groups which issue Halal-certification to various companies after thoroughly analysing & inspecting their manufacturing places.
A few brands/Firms/Major Restaurants in India which have acquired Halal-certifications are :
- Adani Wilmar Ltd.
- Reliance Industries
- Tata Consumer
- Patanjali
- Sri Sri Tattva
- Hindutstan Unilever
- Nestle
- ITC
- Parle
- Britannia
- Dabur
- Milky Must
- Mother Dairy
- Amul
- Everest - Ferrero Rocher
- Haldirams - Burger king
-McDonald's - Subway
- Faasos - Pizzahut
- KFC - Kwality Foods
- Ibaco - Vadilal Ice-C
- Kavincare - Dawat
- Cafe C Day -Barbeque Nation
- Big basket -Wonderla

Flights serve Halal too,

Almost every International airport has Halal-certified F&B outlets,
- Jaipur International A
- Mangaluru I.A
- Chatrapati Shivaji I.A
- Ahmedabad I.A
- Rajiv Gandhi I.A, etc.
Few of the above airports are those which are owned & operated by Adani Airports.
I've personally enquired about the status of Halal certification with lot of the above mentioned brands.
While it is true that Halal-certification is great assurance, but STILL +
Scholars advise us Muslims, to not consume food if we're suspicious about it. And obviously, lying isn't a big deal for big corporates. So only if you're truly satisfied, go for it, if not take veg-options.
Global Halal market is of 2.3 Trillion Dollars of worth, as of now.
At times Hindutva organisations & Sanghi Govt.s persecute and mobs even kill Muslims for procuring/selling Halal meat, mainly during Bakrid.
Do these bigots even know that their own sacred texts prescribe sacrifices, meat eating & their Gods and Goddesses consumed meat.

I can just go on and on...
Other than the fact that, meat eating is something that had been prevalent in India at all times.
Swami Vivekananda says:
“There was a time in this very India when, without eating beef, no Brahmin could remain a Brahmin” — Complete works of S.V vol-iii, pg : 174
And even in today's time, as we speak, 7 out of every 10 Indians consume non-veg food. N.E & Southern parts are very particular about meat, even beef. India exports good amount of beef as well.
These obvious facts do not hinder them from hating/lynching Muslims.
Finally, to know what it really tastes like, Have a Biryani of fresh Halal meat 🥰😋 :,-)
